I’ve been wrestling with myself a bit over what I should post as my first poem. Should it be a newer poem or an older poem? Should it be a metered, rhyming poem (which I often write) or a more loosely structured poem? After going back and forth a bit, I finally decided a poem suited to the summer season would be my first poem for Declined.
One thing that fascinates me summer after summer is the unworldly singing of the cicadas when the weather starts getting hot. For a number of years, I’ve been trying to capture its sound and effect in poetry. Here’s my latest attempt.
